Jeremy V. Jones recently published an article in Thriving Family.[i] His article is entitled “FamilyMac.”[ii] It’s a featured work based on Christian musician TobyMac and his family. As I read the article, one word came to mind – “REAL”. Jones did a great job in expressing the down-to-earth McKeehan family.
It’s refreshing to hear their real names…
I don’t think I’ve ever heard TobyMac’s full name, let alone those in his family. The article also makes mention of his wife Amanda and his five children as if they’re just as famous. Sometimes artists try to keep their family distant from the media; however, seeing a Christian artist as a real person, really encourages other Christians to “step-it-up” and be the Christian family they need to be.
Letting differences strengthen the family…
Something that stood out to me in the article is how Toby finds encouragement, rest, and strength in his family’s differences. His wife’s background is much different than his. He understands those differences, however, as a way God has strengthened his family as opposed to distant them. “God in His great plan has given us two cultures, one for work and one for rest,” Jones’ quotes Amanda.
Real life; real challenges…
Moses, one of their adopted twins, has muscular dystrophy. Toby lets his guard down and Jones’ has beautifully communicated Toby’s brokenness and amazing strength that he, and the rest of his family, find in God.
